Abstract
In the following academic project, we have taken a journey through different moments in history in which architecture has represented the identity of different imaginaries.
This project is focused on four types of imaginaries: the religious, the modern, the political, and the commercial. Each of these imaginaries is illustrated through architectural icons. This work aims to demonstrate the capacity of architecture to transmit the values and concepts of each of these imaginaries, thus forming a fundamental part of their identity.
Nowadays, this relationship is known as brand identity, which is used by large commercial brands to represent and enhance their image. These brands use architecture as an instrument for their corporate communication, reflecting their brand identity. The importance of this concept is exemplified in the case study of ZARA, a brand that boasts national and international success. ZARA is studied to analyze its brand image and identify how these branding and marketing concepts have been transferred to the architecture of its commercial spaces.
In this sense, it is evident that architecture has a great communicative power to transmit complex values and thoughts, and it can also be used as an instrument to consolidate brand identity, impacting cities’ urban fabric and their social, economic, political, and cultural dynamics.
