Me siento muy poquititico suiza: identificación bilingüe y bicultural en inmigrantes colombianos de la Suiza francófona

Abstract

Las dinámicas migratorias de las últimas décadas han favorecido la instalación de un número cuantioso de hispanohablantes en países como Suiza, entre los que destaca la comunidad etnolingüística de colombianos afincados en los cantones francófonos de Ginebra, Neuchâtel y Vaud. En este trabajo, realizamos un análisis cualitativo de las identificaciones culturales e identitarias de estos inmigrantes, a través de las argumentaciones que nos ofrecen sobre su bilingüismo y biculturalismo, teniendo en cuenta la relación existente entre estas y sus usos lingüísticos. Para ello, examinamos un conjunto de entrevistas semidirigidas, realizadas entre 2015 y 2017, a diez colombianos residentes en Suiza. Los resultados muestran que la identificación como bilingües es mucho más frecuente en nuestros informantes que la identificación como biculturales, entre otras razones porque el saber lenguas es valorado positivamente, mientras que el surgimiento de un sentimiento de pertenencia a la cultura de acogida es un proceso más complejo.

Me siento muy poquititico suiza: bilingual and bicultural identity of Colombian inmigrants in francophone Switzerland. The migratory dynamics of the last decades has favoured the settlement of a large number of Spanish speakers in countries like Switzerland. Remarkably, Colombians represent a community living in the French-speaking cantons of Geneva, Neuchâtel and Vaud. In this paper, I aim to offer a qualitative analysis of the cultural and identity identifications of these immigrants, by considering their arguments about their own bilingualism and biculturalism, and by taking into account the relationship between these arguments and the linguistic practices of these immigrants. In order to do that, I study an array of semi-conducted interviews carried out between 2015 and 2017 with ten Colombians who live in Switzerland. The results show that their identification as bilinguals is much more frequent than their identification as biculturals, among other reasons because the knowledge of languages is positively valued, while the emergence of a feeling belonging to the host culture is a more complex procedure.
