El impacto psicológico en la interpretación policial

Abstract

Ningún proceso policial es fácil para la persona que tiene que pasar por él. El trabajo del intérprete consiste en trasladar un mensaje de un idioma a otro con todos sus matices, y en el contexto policial, estos mensajes suelen estar cargados de emociones negativas que un buen intérprete tiene que ser capaz de transmitir. La exposición constante a estas situaciones, si no se cuenta con las herramientas necesarias, puede acabar afectando al intérprete. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es estudiar el impacto emocional que tiene este tipo de trabajo en los intérpretes policiales y proponer una solución ante ello. Nuestra hipótesis principal es que los intérpretes policiales se enfrentan a diario a situaciones traumáticas que pueden afectarles psicológicamente negativamente. Nuestra segunda hipótesis es que, a pesar de ser conscientes de la situación, no cuentan con medidas ni herramientas para afrontar este problema. Para demostrar nuestras hipótesis, expondremos el contexto actual de la interpretación policial, entrevistaremos a una intérprete que trabaja en este ámbito y enviaremos una encuesta para conocer el impacto emocional que tienen intérpretes policiales alrededor de España. Una vez probada esta hipótesis, expondremos una propuesta de herramientas que puede utilizar el intérprete en este contexto. Para la realización de esta propuesta se ha contado con la opinión profesional de dos psicólogas y se ha analizado el módulo de un manual que propone un la creación de un plan de auto-cuidado destinado a intérpretes en contextos con víctimas.

Every police proceeding is difficult for the person who has to go through it. The job of the interpreter is to bring a message from one language to another including all its aspects. These messages in the context of police interpreting are usually full of negative emotions that a good interpreter should be able to communicate. If the interpreter does not have the appropriate tools and the necessary techniques, continuous exposure to these kinds of situations can affect the interpreter emotionally. The main objective of this thesis is to study the emotional impact of this kind of job on police interpreters and to propose solutions to the problem. Our main hypothesis is that police interpreters have to face traumatic situations every day that can psychologically impact the interpreter. Our second hypothesis is that, despite being aware of the situation, they do not have tools and techniques to deal with the problem. To prove our hypotheses, we are going to explain the current context of police interpreting, we are going to interview a police interpreter, and we are going to send a survey to police interpreters around Spain to investigate the emotional impact that these people suffer because of their job. Once we have proved our hypotheses, we will propose a set of tools that police interpreters can use to face the problem. For the realization of this proposal we have obtained the professional opinion of two psychologists and we have also analyzed a module of a manual where a proposal is suggested for the creation of a self-care plan for interpreters in Emergency and Victim settings.
