Texto e imagen en la "Estoria del noble Vespasiano" (Sevilla, 1499): la curación del emperador

Abstract

En el artículo se estudia la relación entre texto e imagen en el incunable de la Estoria del noble Vespasiano (Sevilla, 1499). De las 15 xilografías de la obra, se analizan solo los relativas a la curación del emperador, en las que la Verónica desempeña un papel fundamental. Las imágenes adquieren plenitud de sentido en relación con el texto que embellecen, con otros grabados de la obra y con el contexto de su impresión, en clave político religiosa y antisemita.

In the article is studied the relationship between text and image in the incunabula of the Estoria del noble Vespasiano (Seville, 1499). Of the 15 woodcuts of the work, they analyzed only on healing the emperor, in which Veronica plays a fundamental role. Images acquire full meaning in relation to the text embellishing with other engravings of the work and the context of printing in key religious political and anti-Semitic.
