Abstract

El artículo discute los orígenes de la crisis por la que todavía atraviesa la economía mundial, enfatizando la inestabilidad del sistema financiero y su excesiva desregulación como el principal motivo de la misma. Esta discusión es un elemento central para evaluar las medidas que habrán de tomarse si se pretende disminuir las posibilidades de crisis en el futuro. Asimismo se analiza las características y la conveniencia de las políticas contracíclicas, tanto en el plano monetario y financiero como en el fiscal, y los desafíos, en gran parte vinculados con el elevado endeudamiento público y privado y con la persistencia de desiquilibrios globales, para sentar las bases de un crecimiento sostenido.

Abstract: The article discusses the origins of the crisis that is still foing through the world economy, emphasizing the instability og the financial system and excessive deregulation as the main reason for it. This discussion is central to assessing the measures to be taken if we are to reduce the chances of future crises. It also analyzes the characteristics and desirability of countercyclical policies, at monetary, financial and fiscal level, and the challenges, largely linked to the high public and private debt and the persistence of global imbalances, to lay the foundations for sustained growth.
