Una constitución de Valentiniano I sobre el respeto a los lugares de culto judíos

Abstract

Una ley de Valentiniano I [C.Th., Vil, 8, 2 = C.Iust, I, 9, 4) decretaba la exención para la Sinagoga del militare hospitium. De acuerdo con su política religiosa tolerante, este emperador consideraba a la Sinagoga como un locus religionis y, por tanto, como un lugar protegido. Sin embargo, la reiterada legislación posterior sobre este tema demuestra que esta política prudente no pudo frenar la hostilidad cristiana.

A law of Valentinianus I (C.Th., VII, 8, 2 = C.Iust, I, 9, 4) decreed the exemption of the militare hospitium to the Synagogue. According to his tolerant religious policy, this emperor regarded the Synagogue as a locus religionis, that is, as a protected place. However, the later repeated legislation about this subject proves that this wise policy could not brake the Christian hostility.
