Abstract
emitir un juicio al respecto de si es acertada la hipótesis inicial The work of translators and interpreters in public services requires knowledge of linguistic
structures specific to this sector in both the source and the target languages. This paper
proposes a comparative study of the legal language used in the Russian and Spanish judicial
systems. The aim of this study is to define the linguistic and legal differences between the two
legal texts in order to provide translators-interpreters who intend to carry out professional and
academic activities in the Spanish-Russian language combination, with a deeper
understanding of both systems paired with a greater knowledge of both systems and thus
facilitating their work. The initial hypothesis of the work consists of a preliminary observation
of Russian and Spanish legal texts and is based on the idea that the Russian text appears to be
significantly more modern than its Spanish counterpart. The paper will analyse equivalent
legal texts in the criminal codes of Spain and the Russian Federation, thus presenting the two
legal perspectives existing in both countries on the same empirical reality. The results of the
analysis of the proposed fragments of the criminal codes will allow for a judgement to be
made as to whether the initial hypothesis is correct
