El puerto de Libia (Aen. 1.157-69)

Abstract

Analizamos el pasaje de la Eneida correspondiente al puerto de Libia (Aen. 1.157-79). Esta écfrasis ha generado un intenso debate centrado en sus precedentes literarios. No obstante en este artículo consideramos que tanto el motivo elegido para el acto de aparición de Eneas en tierra firme (el puerto), como el estilo adoptado por Virgilio sirven para caracterizar a la “pérfida” Cartago, en función del determinismo geográfico.

We analyzed the passage of the Aeneid corresponding to the port of Libya (Aen.1157-79). This ecfrasis has generated an intense debate focused on its literary precedents. However, in this paper we consider that both the motive chosen for the act of appearance of Aeneas on the mainland (the port), and the style adopted by Virgil serve to characterize the “perfidious” Carthage, in terms of geographical determinism.
