Las actitudes lingüísticas de los descendientes de inmigrantes polacos en Argentina: entre mantenimiento, desplazamiento y recuperación

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza la función que la lengua étnica ha desempeñado en los procesos de la construcción identitaria entre los descendientes de inmigrantes polacos en Argentina. Por un lado, se evalúa el nivel de las capacidades lingüísticas que en la actualidad conservan los integrantes del grupo y, por el otro, se estudian los diferentes mecanismos que, a lo largo de las décadas, han influido en el proceso de mantenimiento y/o desplazamiento de la lengua étnica. Finalmente, se estudian cómo las iniciativas recientes de colaboración entre la colectividad y los organismos oficiales de Polonia han influido en el cambio de actitud hacia la lengua polaca entre los descendientes de inmigrantes.

This article analyzes the role that the ethnic language has played in the process of identity construction among Polish immigrants‘ descendants in Argentina. On the one hand, the paper evaluates the level of linguistic abilities currently preserved by members of the group and, on the other, studies the different mechanisms that, over the decades, have influenced the maintenance and/or displacement process of the ethnic language. Finally, it analyzes how the recent initiatives of collaboration between the community and the Polish official organizations have influenced the change of attitude towards the ethnic language among the descendants of immigrants.
