Metabiografía ficcional y motivos biográficos en la novela gráfica “Las meninas”

Abstract

En el presente artículo se analiza el género de la novela gráfica “Las meninas” (García y Olivares 2014) y el uso de ciertos motivos tradicionales de la biografía de artistas en la misma. Defiendo que la obra es una metabiografía ficcional que construye al protagonista en los márgenes entre el discurso factual de la biografía y el ficcional, integrando una estructura discursiva que se pregunta por los límites de la construcción biográfica desde la narración gráfica de ficción. Sin embargo, la obra no deja de lado el modelo heredado de la tradición biográfica referencial relacionada con los artistas, sino que utiliza algunos motivos de la misma y los explota a nivel metanarrativo a fin de plantear cuestiones sobre el estatus de la obra artística y las posibilidades narrativas de la novela gráfica como medio.

The present paper analyses the genre of the graphic novel “Las meninas” (García y Olivares 2014) and the use of motives of the artists’ biography. I argue that this graphic narrative is a fictional metabiography that constructs the main character in the margins of the factual discourse of biography and the fictional discourse of the novel. As such it poses the question of the limits of biography from the point of view of a fictional graphic narrative. Nevertheless, it doesn´t abandon the model of the traditional referential artists’ biography, but uses some of its themes and takes advantage of them in a metanarrative to post narratological questions about the status of the work of art and the narrative possibilities of the graphic novel.
