The present study aims to survey the evolution of the European immigration policy. This article analyzes the development of the immigration common policy from 1975 to the present. The European proposals and measures adopted to face the challenges of the immigration phenomena are tackled too. A compilation of the European rules referring the inflow of nationals coming from third non-communitarian countries is one of the subjects that are deeply referred in the article. Finally, some thoughts on the perspectives of the immigration common policy are presented and organized in four policy's guidelines.en_US
