AB AlthoughglobalwarminghasbeenatopicofAmericanandBritishpopularfictionsincethe1980s,itsliteraryrepresentationhasonlyrecentlybecomeanobjectofacademicenquiry.PerhapsascoreofGermannovelsonthesubjecthavealsoappeared,andcriticalanalysisoftheseisnowcalledfor.Followingageneraloutlineofthesocio-­‐political,philosophical,andethicalissueswhichclimatechangeraises,andoftheparticularaestheticchallengeswhichwritingaboutglobalwarmingposes,IlijaTrojanow’sEisTau(MeltingIce,2011)servesasabasisfordiscussionofthetensionsbetweenconfessionalanddidacticimpulsesontheonehand,andrecognitionoftheneedforanaestheticfacilitatingdetachmentontheother.
