AB This paper contributes to that discussion by examining a communityof Lebanese immigrants in Dearborn, Michigan. Factors such ascultural identity, age, and time within Michigan are considered inwhether the Dearborn Lebanese are holding to their own dialector acquiring that of the surrounding area, that being the NorthernCities Shift (NCS). Analysis of the acoustics of subjects’ speech,their understanding of NCS sounds, and demographic data of thecommunity will paint a picture of their current dialect and the effectsof NCS upon it.
