Abstract
Two projects of the thirties: "Las Playas del Jarama" and "La Playa de Madrid", due to their scale, conditions and cultural involvement, remain as semi town-planning events, going beyond the archetype of swimming-pools of the period. Placed in current general mediterranean coastline degradation and immersed in an hydrological resources shortage, the topic of public vacation-bathing acquires a new territorial dimension. Artificial beach as urban landscape and technological capsule, is being tested all over the world to fulfill physical and psychological demands in cities. The analysis of these two examples in Madrid as well as the present reinterpretation of their associated parameters, in connection with the raising of new patterns of tourism and forms of technical relax, provide a field for critical reflection that confirms the relevance of both their locations and main aims as microvacation spaces for the city.
