The role and contribution of the Española concerning currency is documented through the extensive XVIth century writings. Beginning with the attempts of creating its own minting mills, it describes the series of fluctuations that
affected currency of Santo Domingo. It cues
on the faith of this country which suffered from restrictive monetary policies. Further on, it describes the foundation of mints and dwells upon the incessant commercial crises derived from shortages and devaluations of its ever weak currency.
