Abstract
The functional interpretation of the architecture of the Romanesque cathedral
of Santiago de Compostela during its initial stages is especially confusing due to the
absence of liturgical documentation until very late dates. This article proposes a review
of the cathedral space through the interpretation of the sacred topography of the cathedral church and its surroundings, through its documentary sources and the architecture itself and
in relation to its contemporary European environment.
