Abstract
New dicyclopentadienylniobium(III) complexes have been made by reducing NbCp2Cl2 (Cp = η5-C5H5, η5-C5H4SiMe3 and η5-C5H3(SiMe3)2) with Na/Hg in the presence of isocyanides CNR (R = Bun, But, Ph and 2,6-Me2C6H3). These compounds are readily oxidized by AgBF4, to give the corresponding niobium(IV) cations [NbCp2ClL]+, by O2 to give peroxoniobium(V) derivatives NbCp2Cl(η2-O2), and by t-butyl hydroperoxide to give the known oxo derivatives NbCp2Cl(O), which can also be made by oxygen transfer from the peroxo compound to triphenylphosphine.
