Abstract
Coreference is one of the most problematical elements of textual grammar of languages, due to the variety of linguistic means which are involved in it, such as repetition and substitution by phorics and ellipsis. The proper use of these devices includes grammatical as well as cognitive abilities. In this paper, we have analyzed 138 texts written by 46 students belonging to the second course of Bachillerato (last pre-university course). Our aim has been to discover the main difficulties that students have experienced in this field of textual grammar. Firstly, we have determined the categories which errors can be grouped into. Secondly, we have analyzed the degree of correlation among errors and two variables: textual sequences (narrative and argumentative) and the typology of students (according to the modality of Bachillerato chosen by the students and their academic achievements).
