De la muerte por amor al amor por la muerte: la representación de la Muerte en la poesía medieval europea

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza el tema de la muerte en la literatura medieval europea, tanto en la poesía amorosa como en la elegíaca y la doctrinal. A partir de estas visiones de la muerte, estableceremos las conexiones con la tradición popular, común a varios países de nuestro entorno. Todo ello delimitará el imaginario medieval sobre la muerte que se manifiesta en esa tradición literaria compartida y en la iconografía.

This article analyses the recurrent theme of death pervading Medieval European literature as evinced in both love or elegiac poems and doctrinal poetry. Departing from the different variations on this outlook, we shall establish viable connections with popular tradition as common to a fairly relevant number of cultural areas surrounding Spain. It is precisely the latter criterion that will delimit Medieval imagery on the theme of death, in the way that shared European literary tradition envisages it in iconography.
