The Siervo libre de amor offers one of the most ambiguous
endings of all medieval Spanish works. Scholars do not agree on the final
meaning of Sindéresis as she appears ar the end of this work guiding the pilgrim-Juan Rodríguez to safety. In this article an interpretation of Sindéresis
is offered that takes into consideration the Spanish sentimental romance tradition
as well as Petrarch's poetry.
