Retórica y poética en la gramática del siglo XV

Abstract

La enseñanza de la gramática en el siglo XV centra su atención en la búsqueda de los medios que permitan el acceso a una lengua que ya no se habla, la lengua latina, de la forma más directa, práctica, breve y eficaz. Fruto de esta preocupación son los compendios gramaticales que muchos maestros de gramática, con una clara intención pedagógica, preparan aunando temas no sólo gramaticales sino que también extraídos de la teoría retórica. Siguiendo, pues, los diferentes capítulos de estas obras dedicados a la morfología, la sintaxis, la ortografía, la métrica, el léxico, los vicios y figuras del lenguaje, y la composición tanto en prosa como en verso, incluidos, a veces, el estudio de los signos de puntuación y las abreviaturas, el alumno no sólo aprenderá la lengua latina, sino que también estará en condiciones de expresarse en esta lengua, especialmente por escrito. Además será capaz de interpretar, comentar e imitar a los autores clásicos, cuya recuperación se encuentra en la mente de todos los humanistas.

The teaching of Grammar in the 15th century pays attention to the quest for adequate methods to give access to a language that is already unspoken, the Latin language , with practical, direct , short and effective ways. As a result of such concern, there appears the grammatical compendium, written by grammar experts with a clear pedagogical intention and prepared through the linking of topics, not only grammatical but also those taken from Rhetorical theory. Following, then, the diverse chapters of this kind of work, dedicated to morphology, syntax, ortography, metrics, lexicography, the vices and figures of language, and to the composition in prose and in verse, at times also including the study of punctuations and abbreviations, the student will not only learn Latin, but will also be able to express himself in that language, specially in the written form. Will be capable of interpreting, commenting and imitating the classic authors, as well, the updating of which stands at the core of all humanists.
