Ideal with the issue of the authorship of the verses exchanged
between two troubadours who the manuscript tradition merely indicates
as Albertet and Peire, and tried to lift the curtain which so far has made it
impossible to establish the "scene" in which the partimen 16, 15 was
performed. The initiator of the Iyrical dialogue is recognised as Albertet
de Sisteron, while it is suggested that his interlocutor was Peire de la
Mula, original of Sa int-Gilles (on the bas is of the resul ts of recent
research by G. Larghi) and working in the sphere of the Marqui es of
Carrctto, rulers of a vast arca extending from the Ligurian coast, between
Savona and Albenga, and covering much of southem Piedmont, bctween
Saluzzo and the Asti area. The debate, sent for a judgement to William
and Mary Malaspina, is thought to have taken place in a noble court in
north-west Italy in the early 13th century.
