But it is possible to "fan" this opinión by trying to find some of the clueswhich can help the reader to better understand such a masterpiece. It is true that Faulkner lays himself open to accusations of trying to torture the reader by abandoning him or her in the middle of a labyrinth. But it is the author himself who provides his "victim" with the appropriate clues to trace his way to the "exit". Thestream-of-consciousness technique and the use of impressionistic elements create someconfusion in the reader, but Faulkner again comes to the reader's aid providing thesaving chronology of the Compson family. At the end an unstable balance and anordered chaos is the comforting result. The reader finally concludes that the structurechosen by Faulkner is the only one possible.
