Clips in which charactersspeak German, Turkish, or a mixture of the two were chosen fromtwo films by the Turkish-German director, Fatih Akin. The surveywas available in German, Turkish, and English. This paper discussesopen-ended responses to the survey with a concentration on evaluativecomments regarding language use. The survey was administeredto 20 native German speakers, 26 native Turkish speakers, and 12native Turkish-German bilinguals. This paper expands upon themesin the responses with detailed content analysis. The results illuminatethe connections that exist between the use of code-mixing andsocial characteristics in the minds of the participants. Results indicatethat bilingual Turkish-German speakers as well as Germanspeakersand Turkish-speakers evaluate mixing negatively. PB Universidad de Alcalá.
