Every time we log on to an ecommercewebsite we have used before, the interface changesin order to fit our most probable interests. Some sophisticatedvehicles adjust the seat position, rearview mirror orientation andother parameters to match the preferences of the drivers whenthey enter the car -provided that they belong to the set of knowndrivers-. However, this kind of service customization has not yetreached the home environment. In the same way as computersystems with productivity, the smart home must prevent the userfrom performing routine and tedious tasks to achieve comfort, security, and effective energy management. In this paper wepropose an architecture for building a smart home environmentusing multiagent systems, and we demonstrate its effectiveneswith an application example where multimedia contents followthe user movements throughout the house.
