Brecha digital de género : la mujer y las nuevas tecnologías

Abstract

Las nuevas tecnologías pueden reportar numerosas ventajas y beneficios a las personas, y son el motor de la Sociedad de la Información y del Conocimiento en el mundo globalizado que vivimos. La forma en la que nos acerquemos y hagamos uso de estos nuevos avances será lo que determinará nuestra integración social en un futuro no muy lejano. La distancia económica y sociocultural que se produce entre los sujetos que se integran en ese desarrollo tecnológico y los que quedan excluidos, la brecha digital así surgida, puede tener unas consecuencias perniciosas. Esta brecha no se produce sólo entre sujetos de diferentes culturas o de diferentes edades, sino que afecta de forma notoria y preocupante a quienes representan más de la mitad de la población, a la mitad femenina.

New technologies can bring many advantages and benefits to citizens, and are the engine of the Information Society and Knowledge in the globalized world, where we live. The way we approach and make use of these new developments will determine our social integration in the near future. Economic and socio-cultural distance that occurs between individuals and the digital divide (between integrated and excluded into the technological development), that emerges, can have harmful consequences when this gap does not occur only among subjects from different cultures, but when this gap affects seriously more than half the population. That is, when that affects the female half.
