Análisis de algunas cerámicas prehistóricas Filipinas

Abstract

Se han estudiado diez fragmentos cerámicos procedentes de diversos yacimientos prehistóricos filipinos, mediante la utilización de diferentes técnicas. El objeto del estudio consiste en conocer la composición de los materiales utilizados, los tratamientos superficiales aplicados y las condiciones de cocción existentes durante la fabricación de las mismas. Del estudio se deduce que las cerámicas se componen de una matriz arcillosa y desgrasantes, consistentes en cuarzo, fragmentos de rocas volcánicas y, en una muestra, calcita. En ningún caso se utilizaron engobes y el acabado superficial fue probablemente conseguido mediante simple espatulado sobre la pasta húmeda. La cocción se realizó, generalmente, a baja temperatura (<800°C) y atmósfera redecora. Solamente en una pocas muestras, la temperatura de cocción fue alta y la atmósfera de cocción, oxidante.

Ten ceramic fragments from Prehistoric Philippine sites have been studied using different techniques. The aim of the paper is the knowing of the composition of the materials used, the surface treatments applied and the firing conditions existing during the ceramic manufacture. From the study it is deduced that ceramics were made of a clay matrix and temper consisting in quartz, fragments of volcanic rocks and, in a single sample, calcite. Glosses have never been found and the surface treatment applied consisted in simple brushing on the wet paste. Firing was, generally, carried out at low temperatures (<800°C) and reducing atmosphere. Only a few samples were fired at higher temperatures and oxidizing atmosphere.
