O "rregimiento dos homees". El libro VII de la "Confessio Amantis" portuguesa

Abstract

Este artículo consiste en la edición comentada del libro VII de la Confessio Amantis de John Gower en su versión portuguesa de Robert Payn. Consiste en un regimiento de príncipes en que Genius, el sacerdote de Venus, instruye a Amans sobre los consejos que Aristóteles dio a Alejandro Magno. Es, pues, un verdadero resumen de contenidos enciclopédicos medievales, aderezados de historias a propósito.

This article consists of the edition and commentary of book VII of John Gower's Confessio Amantis as it was translated into Portuguese by Robert Payn at the beginning of the 15th c. Book VII is in fact a mirror of princes (speculum principis). Genius, Venus's priest, instruets Amans telling him the teachings that Aristotle provided for his pupil Alexander the Great. In this regard, it is a summary of medieval encyclopaedic knowledge interspersed with Ovidian-like stories that help Amans understand the meaning of the different topics dealt with by Aristotle.
