Universidad, ciencia y poder : una mirada lationoamericana

Abstract

El artículo analiza las transformaciones de la institución universitaria en perspectiva histórica, desde sus orígenes medievales hasta el periodo del advenimiento del Estado moderno, y la valoración de la ciencia por su utilidad económica y militar, así como su impacto sobre los patrones de desarrollo de las Universidades latinoamericanas de lengua española y portuguesa. Plantea, además, las nuevas relaciones entre Universidad, ciencia y poder. Analizando las diferentes etapas del desarrollo científico y tecnológico y sus relaciones con el Estado, intenta discutir sus implicaciones para la Universidad de hoy y, sobretodo, del futuro, a partir de fenómenos recientes, tales como el «capitalismo académico» en algunos países desarrollados y la expansión en América Latina de instituciones universitarias privadas.

The article analyzes the transformations of the university institution in historical perspective, from its medieval origins to the period of the coming of the modern State, and the valuation of science by its economic and military utility, as well as its impact on the registers of development of the Latin American universities of Spanish and Portuguese language. It establishes, in addition, the new relations between university, science and power. Analyzing the different stages of the scientific and technological development and their relations with the State, it tries to discuss its implications over the present and the future university, from recent phenomena, such as «academic capitalism» in some developed countries and the expansion in Latin America of private university institutions.
