La emigración revaluada

Abstract

Los procesos migratorios de América Latina y el Caribe están siendo reformulados y revalorizados. De ser indicadores de la incapacidad de los países de origen para mantener adecuadamente a sus poblaciones, una señal de debilitamiento del sentimiento nacional en las masas que salen y una representación en el extranjero que avergüenza a sus terruños, los emigrantes han pasado a ser imprescindibles para la estabilidad socioeconómica y política de sus lugares de nacimiento, han ampliado el sentido (y la realidad) de sus naciones más allá de la territorialidad y se han convertido en genuinos embajadores de las tierras de donde partieron.

The migratory processes of Latin America and the Caribbean are being reformulated and revaluated. The emigrants were indicators of the incapacity of the origin countries to adequately maintain their populations, a signal of weakening of the national feeling in the masses that leave, and a representation abroad that ashamed their own lands. But now, the emigrants are an essential factor for the social, economical and political stability of their birthplaces. They have extended the sense (and the reality) of their nations beyond the territoriality and they have become genuine ambassadors of the lands from where they are.
