Abstract
This project is a review about the physiotherapist performance in bypass cardiac surgery. The intervention of this professional includes both, the preoperative and the postoperative period in Intensive Unit Care, in the hospital and at long term. To do this, it has been consulted different literature sources and it has been found that the physiotherapists role in other kind of abdominal and thoracic surgery (lung resection, volume reduction, transplant ...) is well defined and structured, but for physical therapy in cardiac bypass surgery, there are numerous investigations, but most of them extrapolate what has been shown to be beneficial in other surgical procedures. The project structures physiotherapist intervention in the three phases of treatment. Also each part is divided into evaluation, problems, goals and treatment. There are datas of the research findings and epidemiological aspects. Moreover, its development has been benefied from the three months clinical experience in the cardiac surgery unit of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid.
