Abstract

One of the most debated subject matter within the current economic processes in modern economies is entrepreneurial spirit, because it contributes to the creation of employment and local social cohesion of the country. That is why, since the 80s, some programmes have been introduced to promote the creation and support of companies. Among those programmes, we must draw attention to business incubators, and more specifically, to the European Business Innovation Centres (EC BICs). In this paper, we will try to make an introduction to this phenomenon since it began, analysing its evolution over the years, as well as the characteristics and structure currently present in the case of Spanish economy.
