Abstract
Este trabajo presenta un estudio de la Visita General realizada a la Inquisición de México en las décadas de 1640 a 1660, la cual fue ordenada por el Inquisidor General Diego de Arce y Reinoso y el Consejo de la Suprema Inquisición. El objetivo del estudio es analizar la ejecución de este procedimiento inquisitorial con el que se buscaba el control y la depuración de los tribunales de distrito y de todos sus ministros por parte de su órgano de gobierno. El segundo objetivo es el análisis de la documentación resultante de esta visita general para explicar los comportamientos fraudulentos del tribunal mexicano, institución fundamental en el sistema de administración, justicia y gobierno de la Monarquía Hispánica en América.
