The article presents an advance of the author's doctoral dissertation in progress. The work tries to show the non-existence of the traditionally considered period of crisis in the Spanish America commerce during the XVIIth. century. As a case-study, the activity of the Veracruz sea-port from 1587 to 1650 is here reconsidered.
