dc.description.abstractEl presente trabajo recoge el contexto y propósitos del Club Atenas, sociedad clasista para personas de raza negra, fundada en la segunda década del siglo XX, en Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba. Su tribuna se habilitaba para tratar cuestiones artísticas, científicas y literarias y tenía entre sus fines elevar el nivel cultural y el buen gusto de la raza negra. Mantuvo vínculos estrechos con sociedad negra de los Estados Unidos y luchó por el cese de la discriminación racial y los problemas políticos y sociales de su época.en_US
dc.description.abstractThis article explains the background and purpose of the Athens Club, a classist organlzation for blacks, created during the second decade of the 20th century in Havana, Cuba. This platform was provided to address artistic, scientific and literary matters, with the goal of increasing the cultural level and good taste of blacks. The Club had cióse links with U.S. groups of blacks and fought to stop racial discrimination and solve social and political problems.
