Abstract
Purpose of review. To evaluate possible differences in quality of life (QoL) and aesthetic impact (AI) in breast cancer patients, between the different type of surgery: breast conservative surgery (BCS), simple mastectomy (M) and breast reconstruction (BR).
Methods. A comparative review of differences between the three type of surgeries for breast cancer and their QoL and AI was made, completing the BREAST-Q questionnaire. As well as, a review of the current situation of the matter.
Results. Our study didn’t find significant differences in QoL and AI between BCS and BR. However, significant scores were found between BCS, BR and M, reporting worse QoL and AI in M group.
Conclusions. There were not significant differences between BR and BCS, but a further sample of patient should be used in next researches. Regarding the bibliographic review, a significant heterogeneity was observed among the analyzed reviews, consequently, more specific questionnaires, including subgroup surgery, should be used in future reviews.
