Abstract
Water and natural light are essential elements for all living beings, whether directly or indirectly their presence or absence determines the behavior of everything that inhabits the earth.
The human being does not escape these vital needs, logically. Therefore, since the beginning of human life as we know it, and sometime after architecture, man has inevitably seen his development as a species connected to these two natural elements.
That is why throughout history, a multitude of documents, advances and improvements have been generated on how to illuminate or how to correctly introduce water into a space in a practical and efficient way as well as in an artistic way to provide a certain perceptive value to the spaces.
In this paper, in order to limit the field of research on this subject, the analysis will focus on the use of natural light and water in the architectural work of public buildings by the great Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Who throughout his professional career has shown great knowledge and great skills in the correct use of these elements in all his works. Creating spaces of great perceptive value for the human being without neglecting their functionality.
The method used to carry out this qualitative analysis aims to expose the work of the artist T. Ando in order to appreciate his way of relating spaces with natural elements, for this, a classification of the different typologies that the mentioned elements can present is carried out, with which to visually analyze the selected works. From this visual analysis, concepts will be extracted that will help the design of architectural spaces through the use of natural light and water.
