Abstract
The study of various documentary collections has allowed to reconstruct the architectural history of a narrow gauge line that had key role for the Spanish economy in the 20th century. The Ponferrada Villablino line was designed to the exploit the coal resources of a peripheral territory located in the northwest of the province of León. The origin, transformation and loss of the railway architectures deployed around the mining train and the immediate area of influence of the Iberian gauge line have been examined. The study identifies, characterizes and specifies the authorship and chronology of stations, workshops and mining facilities associated with the narrow gauge line. It also relates the main changes introduced on the Iberian gauge line by the growing coal traffic in the first half of the twentieth century.
