Desde Robert Owen: contexto histórico y de pensamiento en la génesis del "socialismo utópico"

Abstract

En el presente texto, vamos a intentar introducir unos breves apuntes sin excesivas pretensiones acerca de lo que, desde un punto de vista histórico e intelectual, rodea las figuras de Robert Owen, Fourier o Saint Simon. Desde luego, en lo intelectual, las fuentes, de manera directa, no van a permitirnos hacer notar una influencia concreta en los 'socialistas utópicos” del diecinueve en un sentido de abierta evidencia histórica. Eso va a ocurrir con escasa frecuencia. Ahora bien, lo que sí podemos hacer es reconocer en la Revolución Francesa de 1789 un punto de inflexión en las tradiciones radicales británica y continental, para introducir el romanticismo a modo de verdadera fuente de la que emana el pensamiento utópico decimonónico en el que leeremos algo de Robert Owen. Asimismo, nos acercaremos a una muy sucinta lectura del paleo-socialismo, apuntando hacia el contexto de las islas británicas, que son el marco de la Revolución Industrial, el otro gran acontecimiento en el transcurrir vital de los 'socialistas utópicos'.

In this text, we are going to try to introduce a few brief notes - without excessive pretensions -, concerning those things that, from a historical and also from an intellectual and point of view, surround the figures of Robert Owen, Fourier or Saint Simon. Certainly, intellectually, our sources do not let us notice a very specific influence on the "utopian socialists" of the 19th Century. It will be very difficult to find historical evidence. However, what we can do is to assume the French Revolution of 1789 as a turning point for the radical traditions, both British and Continental, to introduce Romanticism as the real source from which the utopian nineteenth-century thought was derived from. Then, Romanticism is where we will be able to read something about Robert Owen. Likewise, we will approach a very succinct reading of paleo-socialism, focusing on the context of the British Islands where the Industrial Revolution took place to become another great event in the lifetime of the "utopian socialists".
