Abstract
From the arrival of the Roman Empire in Dacia to the present day, countless historical events have taken place in Romania that have made it the country it is today. After the fall of the Empire into barbarian hands, through the Great Union of the country or the arrival of the 20th century and the influence of communism. Romania is a special case within the countries that make up Eastern Europe, since its Roman past places it in a different position from its neighbors, who have a historical trajectory influenced by Slavic peoples. This study analyzes the presence of the Roman past in present-day Romania, including Romanian as a Romance language, a migration with a tendency towards linguistically twinned countries, a heritage linked to the ancient empire, and political and academic institutions that defend its Latin origin. All this makes that for Romania the Roman legacy is a differentiating symbol and that, in addition, they rebel in an identitarian way as Latins.
