Abstract
orientación no heterosexual.
The aim of this study was to verify whether gender roles exerted an influence on the
levels of sexual and partner satisfaction, in addition to observing if there was a relationship
between them and sexual orientation. In the literature it was seen that people with an
androgynous role would have greater sexual satisfaction, greater satisfaction in the couple
and a non-heterosexual orientation. The sample consisted of 405 people between the ages of
18 and 61, and the evaluation instruments used were the Spanish translation of “The Bem
sex-Role Inventory” and “The New Sexual Satisfaction Scale”, and the “Scale of satisfaction
in couple”, to determinate the gender role of the participants, their sexual satisfaction and
their satisfaction in the couple, respectively. The results showed that the participants with an
androgynous role had higher levels of sexual and partner satisfaction tan the rest of the
groups, these differences being statistically significant with respect to the other groups in the
case of sexual satisfaction, but only significant with respect to the group with male role in
couple satisfaction. No relationship was observed between sexual orientation and gender
roles. These findings correspond to the hypotheses formulated and the literature, except for
the relationship between sexual orientation and gender roles. With this review, it has been
seen that gender roles are closely related to sexuality, for which reason it is considered
appropriate to expand research in this area.
