Abstract
The paper focuses on traces of a number of common themes in the mythology,
religion, tradition, epics and folklore of the oíd Indo-European peopies.
In particular, the paper concéntrales on a proto-myth about "divine
twins," ostensibly begotten by different fathers: one divine and one mortal.
According to the myth, the personalities of the twins were diametrically opposite:
one had a war-like character and was interested in horses (second
Dumezilian fiínction), while the other had a docile and gentle nature and was
associated with cattle and farming (third fiínction). An example of this myth
detected in the legends about El Cid, receives particular attention.
