El convencionalismo político de Protágoras

Abstract

Para los sofistas el origen de la ley es el hombre, no la naturaleza o los dioses. La comprensión convencional del nomos frente a la ley natural plantea la cuestión de la construcción de nomos y, en consecuencia, la construcción de un sujeto político, el demos. La primera elaboración filosófica de este proceso se debe a Protágoras, que extiende su relativismo epistemológico al campo moral y social, justificando el pluralismo normativo y político. El demos se constituye artificialmente por hombres iguales y la obligatoriedad de la ley radica en su aceptación libre, en el acuerdo establecido. Esta tarea del demos requiere una paideia: educación y política son dos aspectos de la misma realidad.

Sophists affirm that it is an, and not nature or gods, that is the source of every law except the law of nature. The conventional feature of the nomos facing natural law poses the question about the making of nomos and, in consequence, about the setting up the political subject: the demos. The earliest philosophical theory on this social process belongs to Protágoras. He spread his epistemological relativism to the moral and social sphere, fínally coming to a political and ethical pluralism. The demos is artificially set up by equal men and so the obligatory character of law is founded in free acceptance, in a settlend agreement. That task of the people as demos needs the paideia: education and politics are two sides of the sames reality.
