Abstract
Seville’s “Polígono Sur” is one of the most conflictive neighborhoods in Spain. In the collective imaginary we may find names such as: “Las Tres Mil”, “Las Vegas”, or “El Polígono”. Its real name is “Polígono Sur de Sevilla” and it is formed by six suburb areas: Paz y Amistad, Nuestra Señora de la Oliva, Las Letanías, Murillo, Antonio Machado, and Martínez Montañés. This neighborhood is the example of a failed urbanism, an urbanism that did not meet the objectives for which it was designed.
From its beginning during the developmentalist period of the dictatorship until now, the neighborhood has been brought into the spotlight by numerous studies, inquiries, and campaigns aimed to better its condition. Its current state is not unconnected to the social and administrative component that has handled the area. However, its urbanistic qualities as well as architectonical have played a key role in its development.
It's because of this that this study means to bring the matter of its social segregation and state in current Seville to a different point. Matter to be researched may be: its direct connection with the rest of the city, the design of the public space and its appropriations by the residents, and the residential architecture of the Polígono itself.
