Abstract
se marcaban al principio de este resumen In 2020 a new and highly contagious disease that could even be fatal, spread all around the
world. Today, over two years later, we are still facing this disease and its consequences. Its
name: COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it many new challenges for
humanity, not just in terms of changing our lifestyle to incorporate safety measures so as not
to get infected, but also changing the way we did things in other areas of life like, for example,
work. A great effort was made by everyone to adapt to this new and unprecedented lifestyle in
a short amount of time.
The main objective of this study is to offer resources that can facilitate communication and aid
the work of some specific groups of people within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In
particular, the goal is to create and bring to the table different resources that canhelp both health
interpreters and people over the age of 65 who have limited or no knowledgeof Spanish but
must use the health services in the Valencian Community. This investigation aims to help
professional health interpreters who work in public services due to the fact that the number of
studies that offer terminological resources based on the needs of these professionals is very
limited. Furthermore, the reason why the goal is also to help people over65 is because they are
one of the most vulnerable groups to the COVID-19 disease and this vulnerability grows further
if the citizens don’t speak the language of the territory they live in.With that in mind, what I
intend to do in this thesis to help these groups of people can be divided into two parts. Firstly,
I intend to create a glossary that covers the needs of health interpreters both when researching
to prepare for their job as well as when they are actively interpreting. In addition, this glossary
would also be helpful to patients who need to know themeaning of certain words while they’re
trying to communicate with health workers. In order todo this, first I will carry out an analysis
of similar resources so as to obtain the bestcharacteristics for my glossary, taking into account
the previously stated objectives. After this,I will extract terminology from corpus so that the
terms which appear in the glossary are relevant and useful. Finally, I will create the glossary
using a specialised tool.
The second part of the investigation will consist of the analysis and proposal of other online
resources that could facilitate and improve the access to health information for people over 65
that do not have Spanish as their mother tongue. These two parts will help to achieve the goal
that was stated at the beginning of this abstract
