Abstract
(AEX), Reino Unido (FTSE 100), Italia (FTSE Italia All Share), Alemania (DAX),
Canadá (TSX Composite), Estados Unidos (Promedio industrial del Dow Jones),
Finlandia (OMX HELSINKI), Japón (NIKKIE 225), Polonia (WIG) y Turquía (BIST
The aim of the study is to analyse the effect of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the
main stock market indices in Spain (IBEX 35), France (CAC 40), the Netherlands (AEX),
the United Kingdom (FTSE 100), Italy (FTSE Italia All Share), Germany (DAX), Canada
(TSX Composite), the United States (Dow Jones Industrial Average), Finland (OMX
HELSINKI), Japan (NIKKIE 225), Poland (WIG) and Turkey (BIST 100). The study is
based on previous studies related to the analysis of catastrophic events, such as the
outbreak of wars in the stock markets, using the closing prices of the different indices,
specifically the last 150 of each index, prior to the start of the war and the 5 after the start
of the war. Once we know how these stock markets are going to react using the ordinary
least squares method, we will analyse whether and how other variables such as the
exchange rate of the country's own currency against the dollar, the average return of the
last 10 days of index i, the percentage of trade with respect to GDP, or dummy variables
that take value 1 if the country is a member of NATO or is a developed market, affect the
accumulated abnormal return of that country.
