Abstract
José María Arguedas is considered to be the quintessential Peruvian writer who best narrates the Peru of the Andes because he does so from the perspective of the indigenous. Reading his work introduces the reader to the world and the cosmovision of its protagonists, as happens with Los Ríos Profundos. The fact of his being a mestizo raised among Quechuas meant the author know their language and culture; making him their translator, interpreter and worshiper. Through his literary creations, he also assumed the role of the defender of the relegated people by the Peruvian State: his writing was the evidence. This is why the Arguedian thought of building bridges between cultures to promote a union between the antagonism that had arisen in the people. He managed to realize his unifying dream in his literary work, but he did not see its realization in his beloved country of «all the bloodlines».
