Abstract
After an increase in the number of crimes that have impacted immensely in society and the constant petitions for stronger protective measures, the Spanish Parliament felt the need to modify some of the political policies regarding felonies, in order to bring back security and tranquility to the Spanish population. For all these reasons, in the year 2015 there was a major reform to the Criminal Code, through the Organic Law 1/2015 that came into force in March 30th, and introduced in our legal regime the penalty of reviewable permanent prison.
The objective of this project is to do a profound analysis of this penalty, that has been subject of debate since the day the law was incorporated. This measure has been heavily criticized by the doctrine and politics as it has been considered too extreme and opposite to the Spanish Constitution even if it has been approved by the Constitutional Court.
