Abstract
The planet Earth is suffering a global warming since decades ago, and one of the most affected zones is the Antarctic continent. However, although the occidental sector of the Antarctic Peninsula is the one where the continent has gotten warm the most since the 50’s in the 20th century, there are some investigations that point to a cooler tendency in the last years. Therefore, the group of researchers PERMATHERMAL has been collecting data since 2000 in two islands in the Antarctic peninsula to evaluate the thermic changes produced. The goal of this project is to analyse these records, calculate the freezing and thawing -degree days and make a future forecast to know the expected thermic scenario for 2100, considering both observed tendencies and the ones suggested by the IPCC. After the temperature’s analyse and the calculation of the mean, minimum and maximum temperatures, the natural tendencies have been obtained for the 8 stations in the study. The temperatures resulting with the observed tendencies achieve results above 0 ºC in every station for 2100. The same happens with the increases set by the IPCC, but these ones are lower than the previous ones. Despite the temperature’s increasing describe in all the stations, each of them has a different data depending on the wind or the orography influence in their surrounding area. Furthermore, the freezing and thawing -degree days describe changes in the duration and intensity of the winters and summers, making the first ones softer and the second ones warmer with the passing of time.
