Abstract
cinco a médicos y otras seis a intérpretes sanitarios.
In this paper the current situation regarding the communication of bad news is analysed and
explained from a double perspective, that of the health staff, and that of the medical interpreters.
Both groups of professionals agree that bad news are frequent in medicine and, consequently, one
of the tasks of these professionals is communicating them. However, in this paper the lack of training
to carry out this task is demonstrated and the urgent necessity of having a thorough preparation for
the health professional and the medical interpreter to be prepared to communicate them is highlighted, these professionals must also be trained to face the possible consequences of this job, that
is to say, the emotional impact.
To achieve that aim, a deep analysis of the existing literature has been made, as well as
eleven interviews, five of them to doctors, and six of them to medical interpreters, with the purpose
of proving the theoretical concepts. Thanks to these interviews, it has been demonstrated that an
emotional impact caused by the communication of bad news exists, and, therefore, there is a necessity for these professionals to be trained. The main objective is, thus, raising awareness about this
necessity so that a psychological training is included in the curriculum, as well as giving solutions
to reduce the emotional impact suffered
